The rule we follow
Nothing beyond what is strictly necessary is placed on your device before you have said yes. Until you choose, measurement and advertising scripts stay blocked — not merely inactive, but not loaded at all.
The categories
Functional — always active
The bare minimum for the site to work: remembering your consent choice so we stop asking, protecting forms against abuse, and keeping you logged in if you are an editor. These need no consent because without them the site cannot do what you asked it to do.
Statistics
Google Analytics 4, which tells us which guides get read and which lose people halfway. Useful to us, invisible to you, and entirely refusable.
Marketing
Google advertising and its partners. Accepted, ads are selected using identifiers tied to your browsing. Refused, ads still appear — the site is funded by them — but they are chosen from the page you are reading and a coarse location, with no profile attached.
Affiliate networks also set a cookie when you follow a commercial link to a retailer, so that a purchase can be attributed to us. That happens on the retailer’s side, under their policy.
The live list
The exact cookies in use, with their purpose and lifetime, are listed in the consent tool itself and refreshed by an automated scan of the site. It is kept there rather than repeated here for a simple reason: a table typed by hand goes out of date the week a third party changes something, and a policy that is quietly wrong is worse than no policy.
Changing your mind
Use the Cookie settings link in the footer of any page. Your new choice takes effect immediately and cancels the previous one. You can also delete cookies through your browser settings, in which case we will ask you again on your next visit.
Blocking cookies in your browser does not break this site. No guide, table or diagram is hidden behind consent.
